El retorno de Europe con “Start fom the dark” en 2005 fué una buena sorpresa no tanto porque se haya reunido de nuevo otra vieja gloria sino por la calidad del disco resultante. Sorprendían a propios y extraños con un nuevo rumbo muy actual y que sigue siendo perfecto rock duro. Por compararlo con algo yo diría que estaban muy en la onda de lo que había sido el “Strays” de Jane’s Addiction.

Europe’s return with “Start fom the dark” in 2005 was a nice surprise not so much because another old gory was back but for the quality of the resultant CD. They surprised everybody with an actual sound and composition that don’t rely on past works and continue being perfect hard rock. If I had to make comparisons I think it somehow sounds like Jane’s Addiction’s “Strays”.

Luego vino el Dvd en directo “Live from the dark” que se sale muchísimo y demuestra que Europe mejoró con el tiempo. El espectáculo es cañero y tiene toda la calidad que puede tener el hard rock. Joe Tempest no da notas tan agudas como antaño pero se comprueba enseguida que esto es un mal menor. Los temas antiguos suenan aquí con una vigencia y una pegada que parecen sacados ayer mismo del horno. Los instrumentistas están geniales destacando, como es habitual, John Norum a la guitarra. Personalmente echo de menos a Kee Marcelo; me había encantado su trabajo en el “Prisioners in Paradise”. Además hubiese molado mucho ver a los dos guitarristas de Europe tocando juntos.

Then there came the live Dvd ” Live from the dark ” wich demonstrates Europe became even better with time. Their live show is really good and it has the everything hard rock can have. Joe Tempest does not sing so high notes as long ago but you can immediately notice this is a minor lack. The old hits sound here with renewed power. The instrumentalists are brilliant standing out John Norum. It’s a pity that Kee Marcelo did not join the band too. It would have been great to see both guitar players together.

A diferencia de los discos que los hicieron famosos sí que es viable catalogar su trabajo actual como “Adult Oriented Rock”.
